May: the Flower Moon and my birthday

May is an exciting month for me.

First, I have decided to release my blog. Read my introduction post if you missed it.

Second, May is my birth month! I will be 25 this year!

Lastly, May’s full moon is the Flower Moon. The full moon is TONIGHT (May 10th)!

Let me give you some background on this month’s full moon and why it’s called the flower moon. May brings flowers that are abundant and in bloom. Full moons bring forth energy that inspire and evoke emotions unlike the other phases of the moon. Full moons illuminate the darkest skies, thus illuminating the darkness in our lives. Because of this, self-reflection is big during this time.  This month’s full moon represents a time where the flowers bloom; both in nature and in our own lives. It is a time to absorb the energy we create in own personal flowerbeds.  May’s full moon is also about joy, romance, and celebration.

So you may be wondering, Alexis, why are you talking about all of this hippie, astrology stuff? (side note: I plan on writing a post about my beliefs and moon patterns at a later date). May is a very powerful month for me. I plan to take in all of the good energy of this full moon and seize the opportunity to blossom as I prepare for my 25th year. Over the next couple of weeks, I will be posting about the reflections that I am having about life leading up to my birthday.

Let your mind wander (journal topics):

  • What are your plans for the month of May?
  • Go outside and experience the full moon tonight and the next few nights as it begins to wane into gibbous. How does looking at the sky make you feel?
  • Are there things in your life that you may have hidden that are coming to light?
  • What areas in your life are you hoping to blossom in and how do you plan on nurturing those blooms?

In honor of the Flower Moon this month, check out some of my recent photographs from the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
